Buddy Dean Show

The Buddy Deane Show was a show from the late 50's to the mid 60's. The show was a teen dance television show, similar to Philadelphia's American Bandstand. Winston "Buddy" Deane was a broadcaster for more than fifty years, beginning his career in Little Rock, Arkansas, then moving to the Memphis, Tennessee, market before moving onto Baltimore where he worked at a radio station. He was one of the first disc jockeys in the area to regularly feature rock and roll. His dance party television show debuted in 1957 and was, for a time, it was the most popular local show in the United States. It aired for two and a half hours a day, six days a week, thats how good it was. Buddy Deane show consisted of only white people and he expressed to many people we wanted it to be mixed with whites and blacks. Since Dean wanted to do that, the show was taken off the air because home station WJZ didn't want to integrate black and white dancers. The Buddy Dean Show is also the same show featured in the hit movie and broadway show Hairspary but as a different name, the Corny Collins show. Now because of Buddy Dean Blacks and Whites can now be together.

Did you hear the good news?

Obama is making it better for us already! There has been an increase of money availability to everyone. Due to recession there is increased funding for all types of grants. Even lenders are bending over backwards to bail you out too. Regardless of statistics, there is people getting tons of cheap money for personal use, investments, start businesses, buy homes, pay off debt, and more. Bailout is for YOU

I don't know who lied to you about Buddy Deane wanting Blacks and Whites to be on his show together...but it was simply NOT true. I was one of the Black teenagers, and he also always had a Black DJ on the show with us so that he could have as little contact as possible with us, who appeared on his show on the once a month "Black Day" and the nasty way he treated us made it very clear to me that he despised Black people. In an attempt to keep the show on the air, after complaints about their only being Whites on the Committee, the show was in the process of creating a Black Committee similar to the White Committee that was presence the rest of the month when a Black teacher at my school found out about it and protested the Black Committee idea and insisted that their be an integrated Committee. The show was taken off the air rather than have an integrated Committee! This is the true story of why the show went off the air!!!
